Darwin would be proud

Alright. Let's have a little talk. Well... actually, I lied. A long one...

Alexander Mcqueen has WON ME BACK.
His fall collection was ......... well, let's just say, it was not my favorite collection..
But this season.... wow.

Maybe it's because it's 4 o'clock in the morning, am exhausted and am having intense insomnia.... or maybe it's because I ate too much strawberry jello...at, ya know... 3 o'clock in the morning... but I am literally about to cry over this collection.

This is ART.
This is what fashion is ABOUT. You can talk about commercialism and "what will sell" and "what won't", till you're blue in the face, but if it doesn't inspire.... and make you say "wow.." when you see it, then it's not fashion.
It's just clothing.

Mcqueen was apparently "casting an apocalyptic forecast of the future ecological meltdown of the world: Humankind is made up of creatures that evolved from the sea, and we may be heading back to an underwater future as the ice cap dissolves."
And it shows.
Models walked down the runways in short digitally printed dresses on what are being called "armadillo" shoes (I call them "animalistic ballerina shoes on crack".... but whatever).
It was a fluid transition from beginning to end.... starting with the "reptile land animals" and evolving (hah.Pun INTENDED) gradually into the "amphibians", "sea mammals" (scuba inspired..?), and eventually the "deep sea creatures".

Although, negative press isn't good, I find it funny (and Mr. Mcqueen should too) that most of the reviews for the show are not very good. It's been said that it wasn't a very original theme, the runway design was distracting (which... I have to admit... it could have been better), and that the collection is not commercially appealing.....
YET, the word on the street (well...the figurative internet street...filled with all us "common folk"..) is that it IS commercially appealing, and if we all had $10,000 laying around we'd run out right now and become a "Mcqueen deep sea creature" with no second thoughts.
Thus, I am a bit confused as to why this show is getting such negative reviews..... why Chanel (uck... don't even get me started on THAT mess....) is on the front page of STYLE.com, and not Mcqueen...
Maybe Mcqueen doesn't shower journalists with gifts like Prada (and thus get rave reviews over a crap collection.........wow. Apparently I get a wave of fashion related hostility at this time of night).... ?
I don't know.......

All I know is that Mcqueen is a genius. This collection is genius. And like I said... It's ART.

I wanted to post the WHOLE collection to show the fluidity of it.... as well as some detail shots and pics of the shoes.

So enjoy.

I'm off to dream about turning into a jellyfish.

  1. I've seen this collection posted on EVERYONE'S blog, but I'm commenting yours. XD

I thought this collection was bizarrely cute. There's just no other way to put it. I would never buy any of the shoes, since they are WAY to avant garde for me, but I suppose I could see myself using a shoe or two for books to lean on, as a form of art.

  2. Yeah.... I don't want to be one of those blogs who post about the obvious, but this collection was just TOO amazing to NOT post about!! haha.

I can't even imagine walking in those shoes! haha. Some of the models looked a bit wobbly at the show, so I can only imagine how I would walk in them. haha. BADLY!
